Red’Out – Butss & Pulp EP – Play Label Records

After a first strong release by Exon Bacon including three great remixes from Villanova, Yooj and DC Salas, Play Label Records presents another Brussels-based talent from its team, Red’Out. The label continues to develop its artistic direction that oscillates between a real dancefloor approach and a strong party spirit.

The release is opened by the powerful and dynamically groovy Tangerine. Exploring the world between efficiency and minimalism, the Deep House atmosphere of the track will embark any dancefloor in an infinite journey. For his part, the Italian producer and DJ Stefano Ritteri revisits Tangerine and offers a Minimal Techno approach in a brilliant darkness spirit. The second Red’Out’s original Smoke deploys a more lascivious style and takes the time to get across the soul and to awaken the parts of a body one by one. Lastly, the French duo Jules & Moss remixes Smoke in a strong melodic Techno dancefloor anthem!

With this second release, Play Label solidifies strongly his label and becomes definitively a label to keep an eye on.

Pole Folder & Simon Latham – Human EP – Electronical Reeds

Next up on the Electronical Reeds label is Pole Folder, one of the foremost artists in his native Belgium, in association with Simon Latham. They serve up two fantastic tracks that come backed with four equally excellent remixes!

Pole Folder – a tremendous DJ and live performer – runs his own Reworck label, has also released on Global Underground and Bedrock and regularly gets support from the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, Sasha, Laurent Garnier and Daniel Bortz for his great releases. Simon Latham meanwhile, is a Iceland-based dance veteran whose tracks have been used on tons of compilations on Renaissance, and who has released on labels like Silent Shore Records, Armada, Proton, Olaris, Stress and others.

The first original called The Bitter Memory, is an enigmatic track with a really heart tugging male vocal floating in wide-open spaces. Rubbery drums play and drive the thing along and main room, sweeping melodies come in to sweep you off your feet. The second track, U.S.E. was previously released last autumn on the Y3ARS album. It is a spine tingling bit of magical house with great melodies and tons of atmosphere, as well as a super evocative and neo soul male vocal line that really takes flight. U.S.E. gets plenty of remix treatment.

First to appear is Kompakt’s Icelandic Superstar GusGus alongside T-World for a squelchy tech house reinterpretation that is elegant and uplifting. Next up is Brussels man and label artist, Lex Newton that gets all slick and lively on his classy house re-rub. Another Electronical Reeds artist, Superdrums, comes with his vision of U.S.E. and makes it into a cosmic bit of house funk. Finally, Simon Latham also turns in a solo remix that is even more moody and melodic.

Dancefloor driven cuts and melodic grooves is clearly the right definition for Electronical Reeds’ style and the present release backs it up. A solid package clearly stating a defined but open-minded artistic direction that appeals to a larger audience than most releases one gets to hear these days.

Exon Bacon – Watching Dogs EP – Play Label Records

After two strong releases on Electronical Reeds, the Brussels-based artist Exon Bacon inaugurates Play Label Records with his latest EP, Watching Dogs. Play Label Records is the extension of the collective Play Label that has become a key player in the music scene of Brussels with more than hundreds of events to its credit. This first release sets up the artistic direction of this label that seeks to develop a real dancefloor approach and a strong party spirit.

The release is opened by the original mix that could be summarize with the expression “powerful bassline, persistent heady voice and burning dancefloor”. The Parisian duo Villanova embarks us into a spin with a darker atmosphere, a deep foreground voice and a strong and repetitive gimmick. This remix reminds us why this Parisian duo knows such rapid ascent on the worldwide electronic scene. The Berlin-based and San Francisco born artist Yooj takes the opposite course to two first tracks with a deeper approach and a lighter atmosphere to offer a sunny and tasty deep house track that will delight all the dancefloor. Lastly, DC Salas, another Belgian talent, filters the voice, redefines the percussion and opens the horizon to take the direction of Tech House track.

This Exon Bacon’s EP acts as the foundation stone of a future label to keep an eye on and to follow with a great attention.

Lex Newton – Let Me In Your Heart EP – Electronical Reeds

After a spectacular end to 2013 where they were named ‘3rd Best Label in Belgium at Red Bull’s Elektropedia Awards, Brussels-based imprint Electronical Reeds follows up their recent success here thanks to the work of Lex Newton. The Belgian producer has previously released on the label, and even featured on the label’s recent Y3ARS compilation. The Let Me In Your Heart EP, however, marks his debut as part of the official label roster – and it’s safe to point out that he’s off to a flyer.

The original is first up. A subdued track full of classy fare and a harmonious touch, it glides on a gentle tip that’s bolstered by its refined organ chords and a pitched-back, almost suggestive male vocal. A track that’ll work the floor into a sweat and get the girls dancing at the same time.
Opening the remix duties is none other than returning Electronical Reeds favorite Superdrums. He spruces the original up just a tad, adding a new bassline that helps give it a whole new sheen and exterior. O.D. Math gently lets the vocal shine through as he also re-works the track. It’s a bumping and grinding affair that’s sure to go down a treat with Chicago players especially.

Newton’s second original is ”Take On Me”, a track that’s cut from an entirely different cloth. Almost electro-inspired in its outlook, it coasts by in a steady manner before the hazy, cloudy timbres transform it into a meandering, positive slice of sensuous house music. Waving goodbye to the EP is Da Fat Love Dub; an analogue sounding take on the latter that nods its hat to the old school in the most respectful manner imaginable.

Ian O’Donovan & Madben – Dual EP – Electronical Reeds

Electronical Reeds is proud to welcome two new talents of contemporary techno to the imprint, Ian O’Donovan and Madben, for their first collaboration. A four track offering, the Dual EP offers an expert incursion into their worlds of real, deep, powerful, melodic techno. Two original tracks and mutual remixes create a special bond between the rich and personal universes of both artists. A dancefloor oriented 4-track weapon will turn the dancefloor upside down.

Already supported and played by artists like by Dave Clarke, Laurent Garnier, Agoria and Ben Sims, this EP features the crème de la crème of new techno music, which is probably why John Digweed presented the release as one ‘not to miss’ on his Transition Radioshow Special “Best Of 2012”.
